Highly Successful Leadership Programme Training

When NHS Hastings and Rother and NHS East Sussex Downs and Weald needed a programme of training developed for their aspiring managers, they appointed McCrudden Training to develop a bespoke role development programme.

The Trusts commissioned a bespoke programme of 25 guided learning hours, including 22 hours of face-to-face delivery tailored to reflect the NHS Leadership Qualities Framework and the strategic priorities of the local NHS.  The Leadership programme developed by McCrudden Training incorporated team development, leadership qualities, delegation, performance management and personal qualities such as public speaking, negotiating, time management and report writing.

The Leadership programme steadily gained critical acclaim and has now been delivered to over 100 staff.  A recent evaluation of the impact of the training revealed just how successful McCrudden Training's innovative approach to leadership development has been:

• The majority of graduates of the programme said their confidence at work had significantly increased as a direct result of the training
• Over 90% of those taking part in the review felt their leadership skills and qualities had improved since the programme
• Staff rentention rates among graduates of the leadership programme had risen to 91% (higher than those who had not completed the training)
• Nearly a quarter of staff had been promoted, and felt that the leadership programme directly contributed to their successful career progression.

In addition to improvements in staff skills, motivation and performance, a significant direct saving for the Trusts was identified.  Based on average recruitment costs for the public sector and savings linked to internal promotions, McCrudden Training's Leadership Programme is likely to have made the Trust a net saving of approximately £40,000.
